Legion Post Renewals
While contacting members who have not paid their 2012
dues, I found that several members, or their wives, do not
understand why our Post, as well as the Legion, operates
on a “fiscal” year instead of a calendar year basis. The
following is the description of the fiscal year:
‘A fiscal year, sometimes called a financial year or budget
year, is a period used for calculating annual financial
statements in businesses and other organizations. In many
jurisdictions, regulatory laws regarding accounting and
taxation require such reports once per twelve months; but,
do not require that the period it reports on constitutes a
calendar year (i.e., January through December). Fiscal
years vary between businesses, non-profit organizations,
and countries. Fiscal year may also refer to the year used
for income tax reporting. Most often these companies
conduct their annual accounting, or tax reporting,
depending on the month they originally opened for
business.’
Congratulations to Dave Oberg
Last month, at Christian Hills Church, Dave was presented
with a sixty year service plaque. Story on page 3.
__________________________________________________
The American Legion operates on a fiscal year calendar, beginning
August 1st through July 31st. Consequently, we are now half way
through our year of 2012. This is why annual renewal forms are
sent out early in the year and our renewals are supposed to be paid
NLT October 15th. Plus, every Post receives an extra stipend if we
reach 100% paid membership by this date.
Dues not paid by February 1st are considered delinquent. The
member will be dropped if his/her dues are not paid by July 31st,
one year from the start of the present fiscal year.
Due to computer problems in Bloomington, we are asking everyone
to submit all new renewals for this and next year directly to our Post
to ensure that everyone is accounted for. Thank you!
Jerry Ashley, Sr. Vice Commander
